In 1938, Barkan described peripheral anterior synechiae (PAS) between the peripheral iris and trabecular meshwork (TM), which could lead to increased intraocular pressure (IOP). WebWhen portions of the iris become stuck to the lens, they form synechiae. If too many synechial attachments form, the eye pressure can rise to dangerous levels, producing glaucomatous vision loss. If the eye pressure is high (due to the iritis itself or due to synechiae), an eye doctor will prescribe pressure-lowering eyedrops.
