Laminated vs solid wood guitars
Webb12 dec. 2024 · Generally, "not solid wood" means it's some kind of laminate, but it doesn't mean plastic. For example, I believe Taylor's non-solid back and sides are made from a core of a less-expensive wood, such as poplar, sandwiched between tone wood (rosewood, mahogany, etc) layers. Breedlove is an exception. WebbBecause it is glued, it is stronger than a normal slap of solid wood. Laminate is also easier to shape than solid wood. You can clearly see these advantages in, Taylor's Academy Series, the top of these guitars is is made of solid wood, but the sides and backs are made of 'layered Sapele', as Taylor calls it.
